Great article!!! My background is mechanical engineering - energy and it's madness to see how my -more intelligent / higher IQ - mates from uni, are brainwashed by this solar/wind BS as well. They just can't see the bigger picture, it really is a religion.

Superb summary article Ferg - well done!

The lunacy is probably good for my investments (and has probably given me my financial independence) - but is absolutely horrible for Western societies. It leaves me with mixed feelings about the continued insanity: I would prefer not to have to leave UK.

Love the before-and-after-investing-in-energystocks-picture :):)

Great article Ferg. Thank you for sharing. I fully align with your views but I am trying all the time to understand the other side's argument...

One question that I have been asking myself if the following: when do renewables make sense? (if they make sense at all). Certainly not to get up to 70% of the energy matrix as dreamed by Net Zero advocacy... but maybe up to say 10% of the energy matrix in places with high capacity factors (+50%) and readily avaiable tranmission lines...

This is something I'll be trying to figure out in the future.

Keep it up!

This is the same question I ponder all the time. I was thinking that it would be pretty interesting to see a report, or maybe an interactive tool that can be updated over time, that shows an objective view of the optimal energy mix for each country. It would have to be built with some simplifying assumptions & I don’t know how it would account for interdependencies I.e., if a bloc of countries all decided on huge ramp up in nuclear then others get crowded out even if it’s the right answer for them due to scarcity of the inputs of production. Guess it’d share some similarities with the BP World Energy Outlook but would take a stronger view of the best path to take in each situation rather than producing various scenarios.

Great Analog and very important Article!!!! Finished "Game Changer" by Harold Hamm. In the Book he wrote about the Carter years where they required "Clean Coal" power plants to replace "Scarce Gas" power plants. Kerry did the environmental analysis and Joe Biden as senator voted for it. Please look at this - https://www.aei.org/carpe-diem/some-chart-and-commentary-based-on-bps-annual-report-on-world-energy-statistics/ It might make a good insert after the Oil & Coal comparison.

Good stuff.

Which offshore drillers/servicers you like?

I think geothermal might have a future. My understanding is some of the shale oil tech can be used.

hi ferg absolutely awsome. your not going to believe this but. I've been going back through all your old publications. trying to find your eroi stuff .I've been trying to explain your investment thesis to my nefue with no luck so far. that recent art Berman interview just nails everything. in my point of view. shale drilling closer laterals. getting the oil out quicker but 50% less total production per well. so when permian rolls over look out. that's why I'm so interested in shabham garbs zero decline Canadian plays . anyway thanks a million for this. it's absolutely all the charts I want to send to my nefue. hopefully he can join the club....cheers

Nice to hear someone talking sense on this topic. Will be interesting to see how it plays in the markets because there seems to be such a push in ideological directions by big business and finance. It feels like the people in charge are driving off a cliff rather than actually looking at reality and true sustainable routes!

Excellent write-up here. very clear description of EROI and it always makes me wonder why the supposed intelligentsia don't understand the concept. Alas, the answer I keep coming to is that they are paid not to understand it.
