If you look at energy consumption in absolute terms rather than percentage share, the charts show that the massive investment in renewables has barely put a dent in the growth of fossil fuels. Thank God that CO2 isn’t a pollutant!
de Vries has been shown to have made a lot of factually incorrect points about the energy use of Bitcoin mining, so I would be very skeptical of any claims he's making about AI energy usage. Nonetheless, his claims should be evaluated for their own merit.
