A dopamine hit per few pages/chapter used to be sufficient.
Now, we are conditioned to require a dopamine hit per scroll or click.
If you are up for a small experiment, switch your phone to grayscale for a week to dial down the dopamine.
Something I'm Pondering
I’m pondering the future of these two commodities, as they have both experienced a similar boom-bust cycle and look to have found a base.
One I can’t buy enough of (as I went over in this piece) while the other I won’t touch with the dirty end of a stick.

The Rise in Dopamine Culture chart is from Ted Gioia's substack a few months ago. It really got around! (Gioia is a great follow for music and culture, and he has very insightful takes on tech--he was a consultant for BCG long ago.)
Thanks for the nudge to go greyscale on my phone. Changed it to greyscale nine days ago and love it. Feel more in control of my screen time. Highly recommend.
