Ferg's Finds
This is a short weekly email that covers a few things I’ve found interesting during the week.
Article
Middle East's offshore oil and gas spend to hit $41bln in 2025 - Rystad Energy
“Offshore activity will likely account for 68 percent of all sanctioned conventional hydrocarbons in 2023 and 2024, up from 40 percent between 2015 and 2018.”
Offshore is where the flows are heading as conventional and tight oil roll over.
Podcast
One of the benefits of a newborn is you suddenly have more awake hours and time to listen to podcasts while doing laps of the neighbourhood/living room.
I’ve been bingeing the Decouple podcast and in particular these two:
It's Not Impossible, We Just Need a Better Plan - Dr. Simon Michaux
Peak Shale - Goehring and Rozencwajg

Charts
Charts like this make me all the more bullish.
Something I'm Pondering
I’m pondering the long term ramifications of this visualisation.
Some quick thoughts:
Energy = economic growth (East is where all the future growth will be).
While West has a decent proportion of oil and gas production currently, they have a fraction of reserves and are doing their best to reduce them via woke policies.
West has half the coal reserves even through doing its best to kill production while East is producing 1.5x more on slightly smaller reserve base.
I hope you’re all having a great week.
Cheers,
Ferg
