Ferg's Finds
This is a short weekly email that covers a few things I’ve found interesting during the week.
Sorry for the absenteeism of Ferg’s Finds for two months following Elon canning Revue (the Twitter newsletter platform I used).
Plus, this little guy showing up and moving into our new house put every else on the back burner.
Having some time away from the screens was good for enjoying dad life.

We Are Heading Into a Great Environment for Emerging Markets - Louis-Vincent Gave.
These two observations are worth considering the ramifications:
“I see a striking parallel today between Chinese property developers and US shale oil producers.”
“Plus, there is something else: In recent years, Chinese commodity imports from Russia have gone through the roof, from $4bn to $11bn per month – which is remarkable as construction has collapsed in China. Why would Chinese commodity imports from Russia triple? One explanation is that they have stockpiled.”

A solid thread worth revisiting.

I want to send this chart to every comment of: “I feel like I’ve missed the move in the sector”.
Something I'm Pondering
Given the horrendous economics, I’m pondering how wind power continues to scale. Take Vestas, which is an industry leader for wind turbine suppliers yet is running a -5% profit margin (make that -8%) after raising prices by 30% the past year. Predictably orders are rolling over.
Yet supposedly, this is going to happen.
I’m happily on the other side of this, positioned for the next winter.
I hope you’re all having a great week.
Cheers,
Ferg
P.S . This week, I had the pleasure of offloading all my questions on offshore services on Judd Arnold of Lake Cornelia Research Management.
