Hugo and I are fully embracing Balkan life since we are staying with Mia's parents at their country house in Montenegro. We were both presented with robes and slippers on arrival.
From there, it has been silly amounts of very heavy food since it is their Christmas now (Jan 7 for Orthodox Christians), homemade wine (they have a small vineyard) and homemade rakija (Balkan spirit).
Below was today's breakfast of priganice (similar to little doughnuts) followed by rakija on the porch before late lunch, a long nap then another attempt to finish the food from breakfast/lunch.
Next week we are heading to the north of Montenegro to look at some land as the prices are silly cheap but starting to reprice now that the Chinese have built a massive highway that ends in the middle of the country.
The story itself is crazy as Montenegro only has a population of 620,000 people and a GDP of $ 5.8 billion, yet the section of highway has cost them $ 1 billion and achieved nothing.
This is a great 18min watch if you have time: Montenegro's Road to Nowhere: The Chinese Built Highway that Nearly Bankrupted a Nation
I was blown away by how beautiful it was the last time we visited, and I was keen to check out some of the ski fields this time around.
